Kathryn Burr De-Commits from William & Mary, Will Attend Emory in Fall 2021
NEW COMMIT: After initially committing to William & Mary, Kathryn Burr of Crozet, Va. has changed her decision and will attend Emory University in the fall of 2021.
Regarding her commitment to Emory, she said:
“I am so excited to announce my verbal recommitment to continue my academic and athletic careers at Emory University!! A big thank you to my coaches, teammates, family, and friends for the endless love and support over the years. I can’t wait to be part of such an incredible program! Go eagles!! ?”
Burr currently does her club swimming with Cavalier Aquatics and is a seven-time YMCA Nationals qualifier and raced four events at YMCA Nationals in April 2019. Last summer, she recorded four best times at YMCA LCM Nationals.
Her best times include:
- 50 free – 23.85
- 100 free – 52.26
- 200 free – 1:55.50
- 100 breast – 1:06.79
- 200 breast – 2:25.55
Also competing for Western Albemarle High School, Burr is a six-time Virginia Class 3 State Championship finalist. She place seventh in both the 50 free and 100 free as a junior while taking sixth in the 50 free and seventh in the 100 breast during her sophomore season.
She was also named Western Albemarle’s Women’s Swimming MVP for the 2019-20 season.
After choosing to cut the swimming and diving program after the 2020-21 season, William & Mary decided to reinstate the women’s team to preserve Title IX balance. However, Burr decided to stick with her commitment to the Eagles.
“I was thrilled to hear about the reinstatement of the teams from the SaveTribeSwimming movement, but I ultimately decided to stick with my college decision,” Burr told Swimming World. “I have made my recommitment public after being accepted a couple weeks ago.”
