Katherine Drabot, Matthew Hutchins Secure Records in Final Day of Minneapolis Sectionals
Katherine Drabot of Ozaukee Aquatics kicked off the final session of the Minneapolis Speedo Sectionals with another two records in the women’s 200-meter IM. Drabot lowered her own pool and meet record of 2:16.54 from 2014 to a 2:14.89. Madison Aquatics’ Elizabeth Nelson grabbed second with a 2:18.15, while Hannah Kastigar of Aberdeen Swim Club took third with a 2:18.81.
Jae Park of Nasa Wildcat Aquatics grabbed first in the men’s 200-meter IM with a final time of 2:03.89. Wisconsin Aquatics’ Brett Pinfold (2:04.42) and Ryan O’Donnell (2:06.04) finished second and third respectively.
Barrington Swim Club’s Kirsten Jacobsen posted a sizzling 16:46.26 for first in the women’s 1500-meter free. Audrey Guyett of St. Charles Swim Club finished second overall with a 17:07.64, while Marysol Arce of Chicago Wolfpack was third with a time of 17:13.56.
Chase Kinney of Wisconsin Aquatics bested the competition in the women’s 50-meter free posting a winning time of 25.61. Drabot claimed second with 26.05, while Emma Sougstad of Club Hawkeye rounded out the top three with a final time of 26.25.
Wisconsin Aquatics went one-two in the men’s 50-meter free. Cannon Clifton claimed first with a sizzling 22.92, while teammate Daryl Turner grabbed second with a 23.04. Club Hawkeye’s Joseph Halsmer took third with a 23.29.
Matthew Hutchins of Wisconsin Aquatics secured another pool and meet record in the men’s 1500-meter free. The twenty-year-old flew ahead of the competition to finish with a time of 15:35.11. Hutchins’ time replaces Marcus Guttman’s pool record of 15:58.04 from 2012 and Mike Holmes’ meet record of 15:44.57 from 2007. Teammate Sean Maloney was second with a final time of 16:00.33, while Club Hawkeyes’ Christopher Dawson took third with a 16:01.84.
The 400-meter medley relay team of Megan Lavelle (1:03.57), Sougstad (1:10.52), Carly O’Brien (1:02.40) and Taylor Flummerfelt (58.37) from Club Hawkeye finished first with a time of 4:14.86. Aquajets Swim Team finished second overall with a time of 4:15.31, while Ozaukee Aquatics were third with a 4:19.29.
The men’s relay team of Todd McCarthy (57.44), Jacob Mandli (1:02.87), Harrison Tran (54.87) and Clifton (50.91) from Wisconsin Aquatics were triumphant in the men’s 400-meter medley relay posting a final time of 3:46.09. Club Hawkeye claimed second with a time of 3:47.10, while Minnetonka Swim Club rounded out the top three with a 3:56.20.
