Kate Simon, Michigan State Champion, Announces Verbal To Notre Dame
NEW COMMIT: The University of Notre Dame has scored a new verbal commitment for the 2025-26 season and beyond from Kate Simon of East Grand Rapids, Michigan.
She will join Ellie Butler, Maddie Faikish and Tess Heavner in South Bend next fall.
Regarding her commitment, she said:
“I’m very excited to announce my commitment to the University of Notre Dame!! I’m so grateful for the opportunity to swim for the Irish and want to thank everyone who has been a part of helping me achieve my lifelong dream! #GoIrish”
Simon does her club swimming with East Grand Rapids Aquatics Team and raced three events at Juniors East back in December. In March, she won three events at the Michigan Open Short Course Championships where she earned four best times.
Her best times include:
- 50 free – 23.23
- 100 free – 50.65
- 200 free – 1:49.77
- 500 free – 5:05.10
- 100 back – 56.33
A rising senior at East Grand Rapids High School, Simon won the 100 free and 200 free at the 2023 Michigan DIII State Championships. She earned bronze in both of those events at the DII state championship during her sophomore season.
Simon will be following in her parents’ footsteps at Notre Dame. Her father, Ben Simon, played hockey for the Fighting Irish before playing professionally in the NHL. Her mother, Beth Simon, played golf.
