NEW COMMIT: Highlands Ranch, Colo. native Kate Baker has announced her verbal commitment to Liberty University and will arrive on campus in the fall of 2021.

She told Swimming World:

“I am so excited to announce my commitment to swim and further my education at Liberty University!! I could never thank my family, friends, teammates, and coaches enough for the constant support and encouragement they have given to me throughout the years. I am ecstatic to join Liberty’s mission in training champions for Christ and enjoy all the incredible things Liberty has to offer both in the classroom and in the pool. Go Flames!!!”

A Junior National qualifier, Baker does her club swimming with Highlands Ranch Aquatics and most recently recorded four top-12 finishes at Potomac Valley Seniors after racing two events at Juniors West. Last summer, she earned a best time at Colorado LCM Seniors before going on to have a strong showing at Des Moines Futures.

Her best times include:

  • 200 IM – 2:04.47
  • 100 fly – 56.22
  • 200 fly – 2:04.09
  • 100 free – 51.10
  • 200 free – 1:50.46

Also competing for Thunder Ridge High School where she holds the school record in the 100 fly and 200 IM, Baker is a five-time Colorado 5A State Championship finalist. The USA Swimming Scholastic All-American placed eighth in the 100 fly and 13th in the 200 IM as a junior while taking 11th in the 100 fly and 12th in the 200 free during her sophomore season.

Baker will make an immediate impact when she suits up for the Flames as a member of their class of 2025. She would’ve scored in the A-final of the 100 fly, 100 free, 200 fly, 200 free, and 200 IM at the 2020 CCSA Championships where Liberty clinched their third conference title in program history.
