NEW COMMIT: Valley Center, Kansas native Aidan Gantenbein has announced his in-state commitment to Barton and will join the Cougars next fall.

Gantenbein does his club swimming with Wichita Aqua Shocks and concluded his summer season with a pair of second swims at Rochester Futures and a best time at Jenks Speedo Sectionals. He placed fourth in the 50 back at Columbia Speedo Sectionals in March and posted a trio of lifetime bests at the Elite Pro Am last winter.

Also swimming for Wichita Heights High School, Gantenbein is a six-time Kansas State Championship finalist. He won the 100 back and was the 100 free runner-up as a junior after placing third in the 100 back and fourth in the 100 fly during his sophomore season. Gantenbein has also earned USA Swimming Scholastic All-American honors twice in his career.

He told Swimming World:

“I am beyond excited to say that I have verbally committed to Barton Community College! I plan to further my academic and swimming career. Thank you all for supporting me to where I am today! #RollCougs #TrustTheProcess”

His best times include:

  • 100 free – 46.47
  • 200 free – 1:43.83
  • 50 back – 23.44
  • 100 back – 50.95

When he arrives on campus as a member of the class of 2023, Gantenbein will add his talents to a sprint group that includes William Spitz and David Garcia and a backstroke squad led by Noah Childs and Christian Taylor. Barton’s best times would’ve ranked first on Barton’s lineup last year and he would’ve placed third in the 100 back at the 2018 NJCAA Championships.
