Kansas Boys High School State Championships

TOPEKA, Kansas, March 2. SHAWNEE Mission-East and Salina-South walked away with state titles at the Kansas Boys High School State Championships. At the 6A meet, Shawnee Mission-East tallied 292 points for first followed by O P-Blue Valley-North (283.50) and O P-Blue Valley-West (252). Salina-South won the 5-1A meet with 268.50 points while Wichita-Kapaun Mt. Carmel took second (202) and Newton placed third (198).
6A Results
O P-Blue Valley-North won two of three relays. Nathan Hoisington, Griffin Peavey (the 100 breaststroke champ in 57.28), Sihan Liu, and CJ Shapland won the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:36.91.
Topeka-Washburn Rural’s Grant Rogers won the 200 IM and the 100 butterfly (50.61). He set a state record in the 200 IM with a time of 1:50.51.
Ben Bravence (Olathe-East) was a dual event winner in the 200 (1:40.06) and 500 freestyles. He set a state record in the prelims of the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:32.73 (4:36.10 in finals).
The foursome of Clay Finley, Jack Walker, Branden Schoofs, and Hunter Stevenson (Shawnee Mission-East) won the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:26.91.
Top finishers in the diving competition include Clark Thomas (Olathe-Northwest) (463.65), Luke Calkins (Shawnee Mission-North) (424.90), and Caleb Herrick (Topeka-Washburn Rural) (423.95).
Liu, Joe Lytle, Cameron Gulledge, and Hoisington had a first-place finish in the 400 freestyle relay (3:10.94).
5-1A Results
Newton’s Cameron Spreier, Jonathan Wilks, Ian Clark, and Gage Owens won the 200 medley relay in 1:42.19.
Robby Fee (Hutchinson) was a dual event winner in the 200 (1:45.27) and 500 (4:52.17) freestyles.
Senior Christian Kilgore (Wichita-The Independent School) had individual wins in the 200 IM (1:55.31) and the 100 breaststroke (58.65).
Salina-South’s Bryce Kampfe won the 100 backstroke with a time of 55.03. He teamed up with Philip Steele (the 100 freestyle champion in 48.43), Luke Trimmell and Tyler Ophiem for a win in the 200 freestyle relay (1:32.27). Ophiem and Nathan Allen (Topeka-Seaman) tied for first in the 100 butterfly with a time of 53.85.
Derek Krause (Emporia) won the diving competition with a score of 367.55. Adam Lower (Witchita-Collegiate) and Steve Singharaj (Salina-South) followed with scores of 351.30 and 222.85, respectively.
Steele, Ophiem, Tyler Grace, and Kampfe closed the meet with a win in the 400 freestyle relay (3:24.36).
