Juniors Qualifier Claire Russell of SwimMAC Carolina Lends Verbal to Boston College

NEW COMMIT: Winter Juniors qualifier Claire Russell of Charlotte, N.C. has announced her verbal commitment to Boston College and will arrive in Chestnut Hill in the fall of 2020.

A talented backstroker, Russell does her club swimming with SwimMAC Carolina and most recently raced three events at Greensboro Futures this past summer after placing fifth in the 100m back at North Carolina LCM Seniors. Last winter, she competed in both backstroke events at Juniors East before going on to final in the 100 back at the Southern Premier Invitational.

Also competing for Myers Park High School, Russell is a four-time North Carolina 4A State Championship finalist. The USA Swimming Scholastic All-American finished 15th in the 100 back as a junior after placing fifth in that event as well as 16th in the 100 free during her sophomore season.

She told Swimming World:

“I am truly honored to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at Boston College in the class of 2024! Coach Mike and Coach Eric have created an astounding environment that promotes excellence in swimming and in the classroom, and I am blessed to be given this incredible opportunity. I would like to thank my parents, coaches, and teammates for supporting me throughout this entire process. GO EAGLES!”

Her best times include:

50 back – 25.90
100 back – 55.15
200 back – 2:01.74
50 free – 24.48
100 free – 53.32

When she suits up for the Eagles as a member of the class of 2024, Russell will add her talents to a backstroke group led by Grace Edwards, Nicole Barkemeyer and Maura Grimes to give Boston College even more depth.
