Junior National Qualifier Ava Lachey Verbally Commits to UCLA for 2022-23 Season

NEW COMMIT: Sprinter Ava Lachey of New Albany, Ohio has announced her verbal commitment to UCLA and will arrive in Los Angeles at the start of the 2022-23 season.

She will join Fay Lustria and Courtney Seljeseth as a member of the Bruins’ Class of 2026.

She told Swimming World:

“I am SO excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at UCLA! I want to thank my family, coaches and teammates for their support throughout this process. I cannot wait to join this amazing team! GO BRUINS!”

A Junior National qualifier, Lachey trains yer-round with Ohio State Swim Club and last competed at the MAKO Senior Circuit in February where she placed third in the 100 fly after racing four events at Juniors East in December.

In summer 2019, she recorded a trio of top-8 finishes at Ohio LCM Seniors before going on to final in two events at Cleveland Sectionals. She also competed at Geneva Futures and Junior Nationals.

Her best times include:

  • 50 free – 23.45
  • 100 free – 50.02
  • 200 free – 1:49.29
  • 50 fly – 25.12
  • 100 fly – 55.60
  • 200 IM – 2:05.52

Currently a junior at New Albany High School, Lachey is already a four-time individual Ohio State Championship finalist. She placed fifth in the 100 free and sixth in the 50 free as a sophomore while taking third in the 100 free and ninth in the 200 free during her freshman season.

UCLA finished fourth overall in the team standings at the 2020 Pac-12 Championships .
