NEW COMMIT: Peoria, Az. native Daniel Matheson has pledged his verbal commitment to Northwestern University and will suit up for the Wildcats in the fall of 2021.

A talented distance freestyler and IMer, Matheson does his club swimming with Scottsdale Aquatic Club and owns six Junior National standards. He most recently earned 100% best times at Arizona Seniors after placing eighth in the 500 free and ninth in the mile at Juniors West. Last summer, he earned silver in the 200m fly at Des Moines Futures and at Mount Hood Sectionals.

His best times include:

  • 500 free – 4:23.16
  • 1000 free – 9:15.90
  • 1650 free – 15:21.53
  • 200 IM – 1:49.69
  • 400 IM – 3:54.19
  • 200 fly – 1:48.39

Also competing for Sunrise Mountain High School, Matheson is a four-time Arizona DII State Championship finalist. The USA Swimming Scholastic All-American finished third in the 500 free and fourth in the 200 IM as a junior while taking seventh and sixth, respectively, in those events during his sophomore season.

Matheson would’ve scored in the C-final of the 500 free and 400 IM as well as placed top-18 in the mile at the 2020 Big Ten Championships where Northwestern finished fifth overall in the team standings.
