Judge Memorial Catholic, Ogden Take Top Honors in the Utah 3A State Meet

PROVO, Utah, February 4. IN Utah's 3A state swimming championships, Judge Memorial Catholic High School captured the women's title with 470 points while Ogden High School won the men's title with 337 points.

In the women's meet, Park City High School placed second with 344 points, Logan High School placed third with 241 points, and Tooele High School and Cedar City High School rounded out fourth and fifth place with a narrow gap of 146 and 142 points, respectively.

In the men's meet, Logan High School ranked second with 219 points, edging out Snow Canyon High School, which scored 214 points. Park City High School and Wasatch High School took fourth and fifth, scoring 205 and 175 points, respectively.

Women's Individual Results
Erin Pabst, a junior out of Logan High School, set the 3A state record in the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 58.57. That effort eclipsed the previous standard of 58.68 set by Rolland Hall's Cali Payne in 1998.

Pabst also beat her competition by nearly nine seconds in the 200 yard IM in 2:12.91. Her 50 freestyle split that led off Logan High School's 200 freestyle relay was the top split by more than a second, and her 24.88 time would have won the 50 yard freestyle individual race.

Janessa Gammill, a freshman out of Logan High School, was a double-winner in both the 200 yard freestyle and the 500 yard freestyle. Her winning times in both events were 1:58.03 and 5:21.75, respectively.

Judge Memorial Catholic High School recorded two relay wins. It won the 200 yard medley relay with the quartet of senior Rebecca Kestle, junior Alex Carter, senior Kelsey Elizondo and senior Colleen Grogan (1:54.59). Carter, Grogan, sophomore Kate McMinimee and Elizondo also recorded the top time in the 400 yard freestyle relay (3:45.66).

Men's Individual Results
Sophomore Joe Beutler out of Snow Canyon High School captured both the 200 yard freestyle and the 500 yard freestyle. His times were 1:44.42 and 4:43.22, respectively. Beutler also had the fastest leadoff split for the 400 yard freestyle relay, with a time of 49.28.
