Joy Field Tops Field in Distance During Final Day of Austin Sectionals
Joy Field of Magnolia Aquatic claimed the distance title in the women’s 1500-meter free with a final time of 16:37.04 during the final night of the Speedo Southern Sectionals in Austin, TX. Karling Hemstreet of Nitro Swimming finished second overall with a time of 17:06.89, while Haley Yelle of Mansfield Aquatic rounded out the top three with a 17:19.36.
Alamo Area Aquatic’s Zachary Yeadon was the men’s distance champion in the 1500-meter free with a time of 16:16.78. Mattias Glenesk of Lost Creek Aquatics grabbed second with a 16:26.96, while Michael Calvillo, also of Alamo Area Aquatic, finished third with a 16:27.25.
Streamline Aquatic’s Andrii Nikishenko grabbed first and an Olympic Trials cut in the men’s 200-meter back with a time of 2:03.32. Teammate Aaron Moran was second overall with a 2:06.08, while Cypress Fairbank’s Austin Vacek took third with a 2:06.36.
Elizabeth Boyce of Longhorn Aquatics turned in a 55.74 for first in the women’s 100-meter free and an Olympic Trials qualifying cut. Megan Romano, swimming unattached, grabbed second and her own Olympic Trials cut with a 56.28. Lauren Pitzer of Lakeside Aquatic rounded out the top three with a 56.67.
Nitro Swimming’s Tate Jackson and Corban Rawls finished first and second in the men’s 100-meter free respectively. Jackson finished with a time of 51.11, while Rawls posted a 52.43. Mitchell Upchurch of Texas Elite Aquatics was third with a 52.66.
Nitro’s Regan Barney finished first in the women’s 200-meter IM with a 2:17.30. Quinn Carrozza took second with a 2:18.05, while Destiny Nelson rounded out the top three with a 2:18.46.
Premier Aquatic’s Benjamin Walker claimed first in the men’s 200-meter IM with a 2:05.72. Hayden Henry of Tigershark Swim finished second with a final time of 2:06.38, and Nitro’s Sean Grieshop rounded out the top three with a 2:06.45.
