No stranger to the Commonnwealth Games or international competition, Wales’ Jazz Carlin has been selected as the team’s flag bearer at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast. Team Wales made the announcement via Twitter on April 3:

After withdrawing from the 2017 World Championships due to injury, the Commonwealth Games will be a familiar environment for Carlin to return to major competition. Four years ago in Glasgow, Carlin broke the oldest Games record in the 800 Freestyle. Her time of 8:22.69 bettered the previous mark set by Tracey Wickham in 1978.

Her gold medal in this swim is accompanied by a 400 Freestyle silver from the same Games and a silver and bronze from the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi.

This year, she will lead her country in the Opening Ceremony on April 4 as well as a team of fifteen athletes for the swimming portion of competition. The 2018 Commonwealth Games will take place from April 4-15 in Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia.

Aside from being a Wales Commonwealth Games legend, Carlin also has three World Championship medals and a pair of silvers from the 2016 Rio Olympic Games in the 400 and 800 Freestyles.
