Swim Wales Announces Commonwealth Games Roster; Jazz Carlin, Georgia Davies Set to Defend Titles

Swim Wales announced its swimming delegation on Wednesday morning for the 2018 Commonwealth Games. The team will be comprised of 12 swimmers, 2 para-swimmers and 1 diver as the aquatic athletes will compete at the Games beginning April 5 in Gold Coast, Australia.

Ross Nicholas, Swim Wales National Performance Director, said ‘It is great to see such a strong group of aquatic athletes selected for the 2018 Games and their selection is a result and reward for the incredible dedication and commitment that they (and their home coaching team) show on a daily basis to improve themselves as athletes. To represent Wales at the Commonwealth Games is a highlight in the career of any Welsh athlete and the team is looking forward to joining up with the other sports at the Games to represent Team Wales with pride.’

Jazz Carlin and Georgia Davies are set to defend their respective gold medals with Carlin winning the 800 final in Glasgow at the 2014 Commonwealth Games and Davies winning the 50 back in Glasgow. Carlin also won silver in the 400 four years ago and Davies picked up silver in the 100 back.

All of the other returning medalists from Glasgow will also make return appearances in Australia with Calum JarvisDaniel Jervis and Jack Thomas. Jarvis won bronze in the 200 free in 2014 and Jervis won bronze in the 1500. Thomas also finished bronze in the 200 free S14 event.
