On May 31, FINA announced that the Canadian men’s 400 medley relay qualified for the 2016 Olympic Games. With that announcement, Jason Block and Mackenzie Darragh have been added to the Canadian Olympic roster.

The Canadian relay was not secured a space in Rio after it was not in the top 12 at the 2015 World Championships in Kazan. At the conclusion of the Trials, however, the team of Javier Acevedo, Block, Santo Condorelli and Yuri Kisil swam a relay time trial. That relay posted a 3:34.55, which earned them a spot at this summer’s Games.

Neither athlete earned individual berths at the Canadian Trials, despite individual victories. In April, Block won the 100 breaststroke, just .02 of the standard. Darragh swept the butterfly events at that meet.

Acevedo was already qualified in the 100 backstroke. Condorelli and Kisil earned their spots in the 50 and 100 freestyles and on the 400 freestyle relay.

Canada will now be represented by 10 men and 17 women.
