NEW COMMIT: Ashburn, Va. native and high school junior Jack Moore has announced his in-state verbal commitment to the University of Virginia and will arrive in Charlottesville in the fall of 2020. He will join Matt Brownstead as a member of the class of 2024.

Moore does his club swimming with Snow Swimming and is a six-time Winter Junior (or faster) qualifier. He won the 100m free and 200m free at ISCA Junior Nationals this summer where he registered four additional top-10 finishes. He recorded five lifetime bests at Juniors East last winter and placed seventh in the 200 free at NCSAs in March.

Also competing for Briar Woods High School, Moore is a four-time Virginia 5A State Championship finalist. He finished second in the 200 free and third in the 100 free as a sophomore after placing third and fourth, respectively, in those events during his freshman season. Moore has also earned NISCA All-American honors for his efforts.

He told Swimming World:

“I am excited to announce my commitment to swim for the University of Virginia. It is an honor to  have the opportunity to study at one of the country’s top academic institutions and be a part of one the best swim programs in the NCAA. Coach DeSorbo and his staff have a contagious energy that I could feel as soon as I stepped on deck. I can not wait to join the team in Charlottesville and be a Hoo!”

His best times include:

  • 50 free – 20.89
  • 100 free – 45.33
  • 200 free – 1:37.40
  • 500 free – 4:31.45
  • 200 IM – 1:50.77
  • 400 IM – 3:58.50

When he suits up for the Cavaliers for the 2020-21 season, Moore will add his talents to a freestyle group that will include Samuel Schilling and Robby Giller. Although he currently sits just outside of scoring range at the ACC Championships, Moore has made tremendous improvements over the past two years with two seasons of club swimming still to go: he has dropped two seconds from both his 50 and 100 free, seven from his 200 free and 17 off his 500 free.
