Jack Alexy Breaks U.S. Open Record, Joins 100 Free Sub-47 Club (VIDEO)

Jack Alexy jolted the crowd at the IU Natatorium on Tuesday morning to open U.S. Nationals by lowering his U.S. Open record in the men’s 100 freestyle.

Alexy went 46.99 in the men’s 100 free to take the top seed. It’s the meet record and lowers the 47.08 he set at Olympic Trials last summer.

Splits on Alexy’s two swims and Caeleb Dressel’s American record:

  • Jack Alexy, 2025: 22.45 – 24.54 – 46.99
  • Jack Alexy, 2024: 22.44 – 24.64 – 47.08
  • Caeleb Dressel, 2019: 22.17 – 24.79 – 46.96

Alexy grabbed the top seed by eight tenths over a group of chasers led by Destin Lasco. Jonny Kulow was third. Chris Giuliano, the Paris Olympian, was fifth in 47.96.

Alexy stamped his authority on the event at Trials with his 47.08, again in prelims. But he couldn’t follow that up. He was 47.33 in semis, then 47.47 in finals, behind Guiliano and .06 ahead of Dressel for the second individual spot.

Again in Paris, his fastest swim was in prelims at 47.57. He was seventh in the final in 47.96, though his 47.67 off the front of the 400 free relay offered a modicum of revenge and a gold medal.

With his swim, Alexy becomes one of just six individuals to break 47 seconds and only four to do so in a textile suit. The full group:

  • Pan Zhanle, China, 46.40 (2024)
