IU’s Carlton Big Ten Diver of the Week for Incredible FIFTH Time this Year, NINTH on Career

BLOOMINGTON, IN, February 9. AFTER helping No. 13 Indiana to its 10th dual-meet triumph of the season with a dominating 144-97 effort over No. 15 Purdue, senior Marc Carlton was named the Big Ten Diver of the Week for the week of Feb. 7, announced his school.

The feat marked the fifth time this season he earned the award.

"Marc has done a great job this year, but right now we have put all that in the past," Indiana head diving coach Dr. Jeff Huber said. "The dual-meet season is over and the championship season begins, so we are just starting. Marc lost his last dual-meet event of his senior year, and I am asking him to use that as fuel for the fire to continue training hard and prepare to dive his best at the Big Tens, NCAAs and the U.S. Open. Those events matter most to him."

Carlton earned his ninth career Diver of the Week recognition by picking up his 19th event title of the year. In the 144-97 conquest of Purdue, the senior posted a pair of zone qualifying marks with a first-place finish on the platform (371.10) and a second-place effort on the one-meter with a 335.55-point total. The Webster, N.Y., native has had a six-event and two four-event title streaks this season.

This award is IU's sixth diver of the week laurel of the season. Previously, redshirt freshman Taylor Roberts picked up the weekly honor for his performance at the IU Natatorium in Indianapolis, Ind., on Dec. 4.

Next up, the Cream and Crimson head to Minneapolis, Minn., Feb. 24-26 for the 2005 Big Ten Championships.
