NEW COMMIT: Waukee, Iowa native Nick Chase has declared his verbal intention to swim for Notre Dame as a member of the class of 2023.

Chase does his club swimming with Des Moines Swimming Federation and has met the Summer Juniors standard in the 100 back. He capped off a successful long course season with a trio of top-6 finishes at the Iowa LCM Championships and also raced at Junior Nationals. He had a trio of lifetime bests at the Iowa SCY meet in February and was a three-time Pleasant Prairie Speedo Sectional finalist.

Chase is the 100 back record-holder and team captain for Dowling High School and is a six-time IHSAA State Championship finalist. The NISCA and USA Swimming Scholastic All-American won the 100 back at State during his junior season and earned the bronze in the 200 free.

He told Swimming World:

“I chose Notre Dame because of the amazing academic and athletic opportunities. It has always been a dream school for me, Go Irish!”

His best times include:

  • 100 back – 49.48
  • 200 back – 1:53.06
  • 50 free – 21.58
  • 100 free – 47.45
  • 200 free – 1:41.06

When Chase suits up for the Fighting Irish at the start of the 2019-20 season, he’ll join a talented backstroke training group that includes Jack Montesi, Brendan Santana and Will Cumberland. Under head coach Mike Litzinger, Notre Dame finished fourth at last season’s ACC Championships.
