NEW COMMIT: Sprinter Charlie Bunn of Bettendorf, Iowa, has announced his verbal commitment to the University of Missouri and will join the Tigers as a member of the class of 2024.

Bunn, who owns a pair of Winter Juniors standards, does his club swimming with Lane Four Aquatics under head coach Matt Rowe and most recently placed fourth in the 100m free and sixth in the 50m free at Des Moines Futures this past summer. Last winter, he recorded two best times at Juniors West.

A program record-holder at Bettendorf High School under coach Mike Ahrens, Bunn is a five-time Iowa State Championship gold medalist and became only the seventh swimmer in IHSAA history to win four gold medals at a single state meet. As a junior, the All-American anchored two winning relays and won the 50/100 free combo after placing third in the 100 free and sixth in the 200 free during his sophomore season.

His best times include:

  • 50 free – 20.42
  • 100 free – 44.94
  • 200 free – 1:40.37
  • 100 fly – 51.83
  • 100 back – 52.85

Bunn chose Missouri because of their knowledgeable and energetic coaching staff, the facilities, the support and commitment for swimming by the administrators in the athletic department, program of study and the overall fit he had with his future teammates and coaching staff. Under head coach Andrew Grevers, the Tigers finished second overall in the team standings at the 2019 SEC Championships.
