NEW COMMIT: Iowa has earned a new verbal commitment for the fall of 2019 from McHenry, Ill. freestyle specialist Payton Lange.

Lange does her club swimming with the Woodstock Dolphins Swim Team and recorded two lifetime bests at NCSAs this summer after earning the 200m free bronze at the IL LCM Senior Championships. She had five top-15 finishes at the Speedo Midwest Challenge last fall and took ninth in the 200 free and tenth in the 500 free at Illinois Seniors in March. She competed for McHenry High School East at the Illinois State Championships as a sophomore where she finished sixth in the 100 free and 11th in the 50 free.

She told Swimming World:

“I am so excited to announce that I have committed to continue my academic and athletic career at the University of Iowa! I’d like to thank my family, friends, and coaches for believing in me and helping me throughout this process, and I cannot wait to see what the future holds! Go Hawks!”

Her best times include:

  • 50 free – 23.82
  • 100 free – 51.34
  • 200 free – 1:51.96
  • 500 free – 5:02.91
  • 100 back – 57.45

When she suits up for the Hawkeyes as a member of the class of 2023, she’ll add valuable depth to a freestyle training group that includes Hannah Burvill, Sarah Schemmel and Allyssa Fluit. Although she sits outside of scoring range at the Big Ten Championships, she has continuously made improvements each season with just under a year of club swimming still to go.
