Iowa Boys High School State Championships

MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa, February 16. VALLEY High School won the state title at the Iowa Boys High School State Championships with 173 points. Dowling Catholic took second (138) and Cedar Falls placed third (131).

Dustin Rhoads, Taylor Kutchen, Jon Hagen, and Sam Wiedemeier (Ames) won the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:34.33. Rhoads was a dual event winner in the 100 butterfly (49.73) and the 100 backstroke (49.63).

Senior Colby Kubat (Dowling Catholic) had individual wins in the 200 IM and the 100 breaststroke. He finished with times of 1:54.02 and 58.86, respectively.

Cedar Falls won the 200 freestyle relay (1:26.47). Jon Baker, Garrett Moses, Josh Sund, and Austin Abbas (100 free champion in 47.10) contributed to the win. Moses also won the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:41.31.

Other first-place finishers include Ben Loeffelholz (Dubuque Hempstead) in the 50 freestyle (21.28) and Cameron Herting (Iowa City) in the 500 freestyle (4:35.42).

Valley’s Jim Skoumal, Nate Harris, Charlie Hogan, and Ian Conte closed the meet with a win in the 400 freestyle relay (3:09.27).
