Industry News: Speedo Debuts First-Ever Swimming Podcasts

LOS ANGELES, Calif., July 11 EIGHT-TIME Olympic medalist Michael Phelps stars in Speedo’s inaugural podcast, which launches today. “Speedo Make Waves,” an ongoing series of podcasts, will offer unique insight into the world of swimming featuring the world’s top athletes and the latest swim news from around the world. The bi-weekly podcasts are available at www.speedo.com/podcasts and can also be downloaded and subscribed to from iTunes.

The “Make Waves” podcast marks the brand’s first foray into this new medium. Phelps, winner of eight medals, including six golds, at the Athens Olympics in 2004, talks to Speedo about his thoughts on Beijing and preparing for the next Olympics, as well as what he thinks of up-and-coming U.S. swimmers and how he has settled into his new hometown of Ann Arbor, Michigan.

A full schedule of “Speedo Make Waves” podcasts will be featured throughout the course of this year and next. Each will focus on a key athlete or major event, including extensive interviews with U.S. swim star Amanda Beard, and the king of the 1500m, Australia’s Grant Hackett. The series will also be supported by special edition video podcasts around key events and activities – the first of which is a conversation between Australian legends of the pool, Leisel Jones and Lisbeth Lenton, and will be available later this summer.

“We are extremely excited about focusing on new media, an important tool which is becoming more and more relevant to consumers. This medium provides us with a great platform from which to publicize our relationships with top athletes and federations, securing our position as the world’s leading swimwear brand,” said Sheree Waterson, president of Speedo North America.
