Indiana University Signs Three More Female Recruits

BLOOMINGTON, Ind., August 20. INDIANA head coach Ray Looze and the IU swimming and diving program announced the signing of three more student-athletes for the 2005-06 campaign. Megan Lonergan (Davenport, Iowa/Bettendorf), Abbey Mitchell (Mt. Vernon, Ind./Mt. Vernon) and Stephanie Weeks (Terre Haute, Ind./Terre Haute North Vigo) will join IU for the upcoming season.

Lonergan, a two-time All American from Davenport, Iowa, led Bettendorf as team captain her senior season after four years with the program. During her time at BHS, her squad claimed a pair of state championships. Individually, Lonergan snared four state titles in the 500 free, while snagging second in the 200 free in each of those meets. Scholastically, Lonergan garnered berths in the National Honor Society and the High Honor Roll.

Mitchell, a four-time letterwinner from Mt. Vernon, Ind., led Mt. Vernon to a 51-6 dual meet record. As a senior, Mitchell took 15th in the 100 breast at states and 13th in the 200 medley relay. Academically, Mitchell graduated with honors and was a member of DECA, YoungLife, Junior Civilian, the Student-Athletic Club and SADD.

Weeks, a multi-sport athlete from Terre Haute, Ind., led North Vigo to an undefeated season in 2003 and a conference championship. In 2005, Weeks participated at states in the 100 fly and 200 free relay. In the classroom, Weeks earned a berth in the National Honor Society and served in the Band/Choir Solo and Ensemble.
