NEW COMMIT: Evansville, Ind. native and high school junior Elizabeth Broshears has announced her in-state verbal commitment to the Indiana Hoosiers for the fall of 2020.

Broshears swims year-round with the Boonville Aquatic Dolphins and owns the U.S. Open cut in the 100 fly with five other Winter Juniors (or faster) standards. She most recently competed at Juniors East where she recorded a best time in the 100 free. She was the 100m fly runner-up with five other top-15 finishes at the Indiana LCM Senior Championships before racing four events at Junior Nationals. She was also a six-time finalist at Indiana SCY Seniors in March.

Broshears is a four-time Indiana State Championship finalist for Reitz Memorial High School. She was the 50 free runner-up and took third in the 100 fly as a sophomore after placing fourth and seventh, respectively, in those events during her freshman season. She has also earned both NISCA and USA Swimming Scholastic All-American honors during her career.

She told Swimming World:

“I am beyond excited to announce my verbal commitment to study and swim at Indiana University! As an Indiana age group swimmer, I have watched this program progress for the past few years, and I have an immense amount of faith in the coaches, my future teammates, and their goals for the future. I would like to thank my coaches, family, and friends for their continued support. Go Hoosiers!”

Her best times include:

  • 100 fly – 53.75
  • 200 fly – 2:03.13
  • 100 back – 56.01
  • 200 back – 1:58.48
  • 50 free – 22.89
  • 100 free – 51.41

Even with 1.5 years of club swimming still to go before suiting up for Indiana as a member of the class of 2024, Broshears will make an immediate impact. She would’ve scored in the C-final of the 50 free and 100 fly at the 2018 Big Ten Championships where the Hoosiers took second overall in the team standings.
