Illinois State Champion Alec Filipovic Verbally Commits to Texas for 2022

NEW COMMIT: The University of Texas has picked up a big verbal commitment to add to their Class of 2026 from Aleksej “Alec” Filipovic of St Charles, Ill., who is one of the top recruits in his class.

He will join Louisville, Ky. native Holden Smith in Austin at the start of the 2022-23 season.

Regarding his commitment, he said:

“I am proud and excited to announce my verbal commitment to the University of Texas. I’m proud in myself for the constant work and drive that brought me to where I am and will be in the future and I’m thankful for all my SCST coaches, teams, friends, and family that have helped excel me in swimming. HOOK’EM”

Filipovic, who trains year-round with, St. Charles Swim Team, owns several Junior National standards and posted a best time in the 100 fly at his team’s time trial earlier this month.

He had a great showing at Juniors West in December, notching seven best times and posting four top-22 finishes. He more recently placed second in the 200 IM and fifth in the 50/100 free at Illinois Seniors in March. 

His best times include:

  • 100 fly – 48.05
  • 50 free – 20.21
  • 100 free – 44.31
  • 200 fly – 1:48.88
  • 200 IM – 1:48.04

Currently a junior at St. Charles North High School, Filipovic is already a four-time individual Illinois State Championship finalist. He won the 100 fly and was the runner-up in the 50 free as a sophomore while taking fifth in the 200 IM and seventh in the 100 free during his freshman season.

In 2020, he helped his team defend their state title by posting a two-point victory over Loyola Academy.

Under legendary head coach Eddie Reese, the Longhorns won their 24th Big 12 conference championship title last season.
