NEW COMMIT: The University of Idaho has earned an in-state verbal commitment for the fall of 2019 from Haylee Buyers, who will join Cassidy Jones and Alexa Teneyck as a member of the class of 2023.

A native of Eagle, Idaho, Buyers does her club swimming with Boise YMCA Swim Team and recorded a best time at Santa Clara Futures this summer after racing six events at Mount Hood Sectionals. She took second in the 100 fly at the Empire Senior Winter Championships last winter and swam a lifetime best in the 200 IM at YMCA Nationals in April.

A current senior at Eagle High School, Buyers recently competed at the Idaho 5A State Championships where she won the 100 fly in a new 5A record, was the 100 back runner-up, and won the 4×50 free relay along with her sister, Amelia Buyers.

She told Swimming World:

“I’m so excited to continue my education and swimming career at the university of Idaho. Coach Mark and the Idaho girls are amazing people and I can’t wait to get into the pool with them! The campus is beautiful and a perfect fit for my college experience.”

Her best times include:

  • 100 fly – 57.60
  • 50 back – 27.72
  • 100 back – 58.08
  • 200 back – 2:04.88
  • 200 IM – 2:07.50

Buyers will make an immediate impact when she suits up for the Vandals next fall. She would’ve placed in the B-final of the 200 IM and 200 back as well as the C-final of the 100 fly and 100 back at the 2018 WAC Championships where Idaho finished third overall in the team standings.
