Houston’s Anna Kiess Named C-USA Diver of the Week

HOUSTON – University of Houston junior Anna Kiess was honored Tuesday as the Conference USA Diver of the Week.

Kiess, the 2005 NCAA national runner-up on the platform, teamed with freshman Tania Cagnotto to help the Cougars go 1-2 on both the 1- and 3-meter springboards against new C-USA rival Rice and LSU last weekend.
The Hanover, Germany, native won the 1-meter event with 280.73 points and finished a close second in the 3-meter competition with 292.58 points.
It was Kiess' first weekly award in 2005-06 but the sixth such honor during her career. It also was the eighth time in the 10 weeks of the award that a Cougar diver has received the accolade. Finally, it marked the 30th time since the 2001-02 season that a Cougar was named C-USA Diver of the Week.
Kiess and her Cougar teammates return to action on at 1 p.m., Saturday, when they meet Nevada and New Mexico State in a double-dual meet in Reno, Nev.

Rice's Diana Gu was named the C-USA Swimmer of the Week.
