NEW COMMIT: Sprint freestyler Emma Wright of Hobart, Ind. has handed the University of Houston their first early verbal commitment for their class of 2025.

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I am extremely excited to announce that I have verbally committed and will be continuing my academic and swimming career at the University of Houston!!!! I would like to thank my family, friends, and coaches that have showed me love and support along the way 🙂 Go Coogs!!??”

Wright does her club swimming with the Hobart Tiger Sharks and owns the Junior National standards in both the 50 free and 100 free. She placed 24th in the 100 free at Juniors East in December and had a pair of top-5 finishes at Indiana Seniors last short course season. This past summer, she raced to fifth in the 100m free at Greensboro Futures.

Her best times include:

  • 50 free – 23.20
  • 100 free – 49.95
  • 200 free – 1:52.65

Also competing for Hobart High School, Wright is a four-time Indiana State Championship finalist. The USA Swimming Scholastic All-American earned bronze in the 100 free and took 10th in the 50 free as a junior while taking first and ninth, respectively, in those events during her sophomore season.

Wright will be a valuable asset both individually and on relays when she suits up for Houston in the fall of 2021. Under head coach Ryan Wochomurka, the Cougars won their fourth-straight conference title at the 2020 American Athletic Championships.
