Hot Times Expected at American Short Course Championships

AUSTIN, Texas, March 1. RECORD-SETTING performances – plenty of them – are expected to be produced at the American Short Course Championships, scheduled to run from Thursday through Sunday at the University of Texas. Some of the leading names in American swimming are slated to compete, including the Longhorn triumvirate of Aaron Peirsol, Brendan Hansen and Ian Crocker.

Competing at their home pool, the threesome should challenge a number of American standards, as will Michael Phelps, not far removed from a splendid showing at the New York stop on the FINA World Cup circuit. As part of his schedule, Phelps is scheduled to race the 200 and 400 individual medley events and the 200 butterfly.

Also expected to race in the short-course yards competition are Kaitlin Sandeno, Tara Kirk, Ariana Kukors, Jason Lezak, Megan Jendrick, Nick Brunelli, Klete Keller, Neil Walker, Margaret Hoelzer and Jayme Cramer on the American side. The entry lists also include South Africa’s Roland Schoeman, the reigning world champion in the 50 freestyle who is preparing for the Commonwealth Games later this month in Melbourne, and Great Britain’s Mark Foster.
