Host Wins Both Men’s and Women’s Crowns at Indiana Invitational

BLOOMINGTON, IN, November 24. THE host team announced wins by both their men’s and women’s teams in the Indiana Invitational 11-19-04 through 11-21-04 at the Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatic Center in Bloomington, Indiana.

The No. 14 Hoosier men won the meet with 1,240 points (1028 swim; 212 dive), while Kentucky came in second with 1,010.50 points, all from swimming. Utah was third with 779.50, and Cincinnati finished fourth with a 470 tally.

"It was nice to win the swimming side of the equation this weekend," Head Coach Ray Looze said. "I am especially proud that we did it with the loss of personnel due to illness that we sustained. This was a dry run for the Big Ten Championships and we had different guys step up even given our level of training and preparation coming into the meet. We really haven't had a lot of rest. We are on track right now, but will still need to work on finishing our races, making better turns and progressing with out fundamentals. I really think this team has a chance to do some special things."

No. 25 Indiana women won by 47 over the No. 15 Michigan Wolverines, 870.50 to 823.50.points. Utah tallied 618.50, Kentucky 599, Illinois 425, Toledo 283.50 points, Miami 245 points. Cincinnati rounded out team scoring with 132 points.

"I am really pleased with out team effort this weekend," Head Coach Dorsey Tierney said. "We had some solid relays over the meet. We struggled a bit today, but we have a small team and had people swim in a lot of events. Luckily, they all seem to enjoy swimming in multiple events. I am thoroughly proud of our relays. We still have a lot of work before the end of the season, but I think I have had the most fun with this team than I have had with a group in a long time."
