Hope , Grand Valley Split Meets

HOPE, Mich., Jan. 24. THE Hope College Flying Dutchmen posted a 130-101 non-league dual meet victory over Division III Grand Valley State on Friday.

Coach John Patnott's Dutchmen improved to 5-3 in dual meets.

Senior Brian Slagh was a double winner capturing the 500 (4:54.72) and 1,000 (9:45.04) freestyle events. Other Hope winners were freshman David Ornee, 200
freestyle (1:47.38); senior Dan Bouwens, 100 butterfly (:53.68); junior Ian Kobes, 100 backstroke (54.48); and sophomore Matt Waterstone, 100 breaststroke (1:02.85).

Hope's women's team was defeated by Division II Grand Valley State 133-110. Coach John Patnott's Flying Dutch are 6-3 in dual meets this season.

Hope had two double winners. Senior Erin VandenBerg captured the 200 (1:59.08) and 500 freestyle (5:19.35) while freshman Meagan O'Neil took first in the 200
IM (2:15.93) and 100 butterfly (1:01.42). Junior Michelle Smith won the 1,000 freestyle (10:55.63).

The Flying Dutch will be back in action Saturday hosting Calvin and Kalamazoo in an MIAA triangular beginning at 1 p.m. at the Dow Center.
