NEW COMMIT: Indiana University has picked up a new in-state verbal commitment from Zionsville, Ind. backstroker Elyse Heiser. She’ll join Anna Peoplowski and Mariah Denigan in Bloomington as a member of the class of 2025.

A Summer Juniors qualifier, Heiser swims year-round with Zionsville Swim Club and capped off her summer season with four best times at NCSAs after earning bronze in the 200m back at Indiana LCM Seniors. Last winter, she raced both backstroke events at Juniors East before going on to finish third in the 100/200 back at Indiana SCY Seniors. A current junior at Zionsville Community High School, the USA Swimming Scholastic All-American finished eighth in the 100 back and ninth in the 200 free as a sophomore at the Indiana State Championships.

She told Swimming World:

“I am beyond excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and swimming career with Indiana University!! Thank you to all my amazing coaches, teammates, parents, and friends who have supported me along the way! Go Hoosiers!!”

Her best times include:

  • 50 back – 26.84
  • 100 back – 55.52
  • 200 back – 1:59.39
  • 50 free – 24.38
  • 100 free – 52.41
  • 200 free – 1:51.64
  • 200 IM – 2:08.96

Heiser will add valuable depth to the Hoosiers’ backstroke training group when she suits up for them at the start of the 2021-22 season. Although it took a 54.31/1:58.80 to score in the 100/200 back at the 2019 Big Ten Championships, Heiser saw some big time drops this summer and will look to carry that momentum into this short course season.
