Honors 2021: Surge of Inside with Brett Hawke Podcast Has Been Big Positive For Sport

Since launching his Inside with Brett Hawke Podcast, the eponymous host and two-time Australian Olympian has offered insight into the lives and thinking of some of the biggest names in the sport. With the support of right-hand man Nate Tschohl, Hawke has provided the sport with a regular opportunity to hear from those who make the sport go.

Sometimes, the interviews are with the headlining athletes (past and present), such as Ian Thorpe, Kyle Chalmers, Tatjana Schoenmaker, David Popovici and Ariarne Titmus. Frequently, the interviews feature a premier coach, ranging from Eddie Reese to Dean Boxall to David Marsh to Bob Bowman to Fred Vergnoux – and many in between. Always, the interviews are enlightening.

Hawke is a superb interviewer who possesses the ability to balance his shows between question-asking and allowing his subjects to tell their stories. The questions he asks not only guide his interviewees into discussions of interesting and important topics, but also are queries fans want answers to. Whether the show is less than an hour or more than two hours, it is easy to be enthralled.

So, as we prepare to move into 2022, it seemed an appropriate time to honor Hawke for his contributions to the sport. He has handled several roles during his career, including high-level athlete and coach, and he now is flourishing as a high-level host who brings additional light to the personalities within the swimming world.
