High School State Championships: Wyoming 3A and 4A Boys

GILLETTE, Wyoming, February 29. LANDER High School (Division 3A) and Campbell County High School (Division 4A) were the top teams at the Wyoming State High School Swimming and Diving Championships Feb. 23-25 in Gillette.

Division 3A ' Feb. 23-24
Lander swam away from the championships with 284.5 points, followed by Buffalo (194.5), Worland (181.5), Kemmerer (147) and Powell (122).

Buffalo's 200 medley relay team of juniors Nate Holt and Neil Medders, plus freshman Timothy Cohoon and senior Josh Cohoon combined for a 1:44.90 victory. Holt won the 100 back (57.39) and tied with Rawlins freshman Zach Cain in the 200 IM (2:06.20). Medders was triumphant in the 500 free (5:09.80).

The Worland 200 free relay of seniors Christopher Nichols, Landan Doyle and Alec Hampton, along with freshman Connor Petty, topped the field in the 200 free relay (1:33.06) and finished the meet with a 3:23.66 victory in the 400 free relay. Individual winners for Worland included Petty in the 100 free (48.52), Hampton in the 200 free (1:49.92) and sophomore Austin Rettinghouse in 1-meter diving (409.40).

Three seniors also swam away with one event title apiece. Cody's Chase Walton claimed the 50 free (22.46), Kemmerer's Erron Hopkins posted a 1:01.11 in the 100 breast and Douglas' Tyler Weiss flew to a 54.92 in the 100 fly.

Division 4A ' Feb. 24-25
Six 4A records were broken'five individual and one relay. Campbell County's Collin Baldacci, a junior, set marks in both the 100 back (50.67) and 200 IM (1:51.91). Along with senior Geoff Rappleyea, sophomore Andrew Apodaca and junior Kory Knottnerus, Baldacci lowered the 200 medley relay standard to 1:36.28.

Campbell County senior Nick Dillinger set two new records. He erased the 200 free record with his 1:38.19, and lowered the 500 free mark in prelims in 4:35.13. Dillinger came back in finals and claimed the event in 4:58.25. The sixth record went to East's Taylor Leisdorf, who posted a new standard of 57.25 in the 100 breast.

Campbell County swept the relays. Sophomore David Bowersox, who took the 50 free in 22.00, joined Baldacci, Rappleyea and Knottnerus for a 1:28.56 in the 200 free relay; the quartet of Baldacci, Bowersox, Rappleyea and Dillinger combined for a 3:13.29 in the 400 free relay.

Laramie senior Jackson Colter captured the 100 fly with his 50.92, and Central senior Garrett Koehler's 47.23 gave him the victory in the 100 free.

Campbell County put together 250 points for the team championship. Central followed with 209 points, and Laramie's 185 points put them in third. East finished five points ahead of Rock Springs for fourth, 167-162.
