High School State Championships: Nebraska Boys and Girls

LINCOLN, Nebraska, February 28. CREIGHTON Prep senior William Raynor ended his high school career with a bang. He set state records in the prelims of the 200 yard IM with his 1:50.41 (winning the event in 1:50.63) and the finals of the 100 back (49.43). He also swam on Creighton Prep's victorious 200 free relay (1:24.42) with freshman Sean Tate and seniors Connor Magee and Matthew Medara.

Creighton Prep's 400 free relay of Medara, Tate, junior Andrew Hanson and Magee also took first with their 3:12.71. Creighton's victories, plus depth, enabled them to secure the state title with 306 points. Lincoln East followed in second (163), with Millard South third (154), Elkhorn South fourth (131) and Millard West fifth (118).

Ryan Miksch, a senior at Columbus, also set a state record with his 44.51 in the 100 free and collected a second win in the 50 free (20.64).

Millard South's 200 medley relay of juniors Bob Glover and Neil Girmus, plus senior Ryan Hogan and sophomore Jim Glover, put them on top with a 1:32.89. Girmus collected an individual title in the 200 free (1:44.09).

Also collecting victories were Ralson-Gross sophomore Garrett Cadotte in the 100 fly (50.61), Papillon-LaVista junior Jack Turman in the 500 free (4:42.79) and Millard West senior Isaac Springer in the 100 breast (57.27).

Omaha Westside's girls put together 195 points to gain their team title, followed by Millard West (178), Lincoln Southwest (131.5), Millard North (126) and Omaha Marian (114).

Westside's individual star was senior Molly Kroeger, who doubled in the 100 free (52.45) and 200 free (1:53.89). Kroeger also anchored Westside's 200 free victory of 1:38.25 with teammates senior Elaina Blair plus sophomores Savanna Couillard and Hannah Miller.

Millard West's 400 free relay of sophomore Shea Marcinski, juniors Taylor Korte and Erin Oeltjen and freshman Tara Goss combined for a 3:36.58 for first place. Both Millard West's individual champions had very close victories. In the 100 fly, Goss stayed just ahead of Omaha Burke senior Natasha Posthuma (59.45-59.53); Oeltjen held off Lincoln Southwest junior Meredith Wekesser for the 100 back triumph (58.11-58.16).

Millard North's team of senior Natalie Renshaw, junior Amber Baesler and sophomores Mary Luddy and Laura Ney opened up the meet with a 1:49.80 in the 200 medley relay.

Other individual event champions included Alexis Altmaier, a freshman at Lincoln East (200 IM, 2:09.19); Laura Miksch, a Columbus sophomore (50 free, 23.86); Aimee Fischer, a Lincoln Southwest sophomore (500 free, 5:07.74); and Jordane Linhart, a senior at Ralston-Gross (100 breast, 1:07.24).

In a separate diving competition, senior Nicole Schwery of Lincoln Southwest (452.60 points) edged out Elkhorn South junior Elizabeth Howorth (445.60); Addison Boschult, a senior at Ralston-Gross was the top boys diver (511.05 points).
