High School State Championships: Louisiana Division 3

SULPHUR, Louisiana, November 21. THREE division records fell during the Louisiana Division 3 Swimming Championship November 20-21 at the Sulphur Aquatic Center.

Parkview Baptist senior John Miller lowered the records he set last year in both the 200 (1:42.71) and 500 (4:34.22) yard free. His prior marks were 1:45.51 and 4:42.94, respectively. Miller finishes his high school career as a three-time champ in the 500 free.

Notre Dame sophomore Erin Trahan bettered her Division 3 standard from last year (24.51) in the 50 free to this year’s 24.19, and also posted a winning 57.16 in the 100 fly.

Parkview Baptist’s Danielle Miles took charge in both the girls 200 and 500 free (1:59.29 and 5:20.37) for the second straight year. Also successfully defending her two titles were St. Louis’ Laura Patrick in the 200 IM (2:13.51) and 100 breast (1:08.91).

Jay Danos repeated as champion of the boys 50 free (21.13). He also topped the field in the 100 breast (1:02.47). Danos’ classmate, Nicolas Rathle, became the champion in both the 100 free (49.48) and 200 IM (2:04.00).

Jessica Ding, a junior at Haynes Academy, earned her way to the top of the podium stand in the 100 free (55.13). Her teammate, freshman Ashton Edler, claimed first in the 100 back (1:03.88).

Senior Brandon Klibert’s 57.86 in the 100 back gave St. Charles Catholic first-place points, and sophomore Chase Cornardelle aided Parkview Baptist’s cause with his winning 53.86 in the 100 fly.

Vandebilt Catholic’s 200 medley relay of sophomore Remi Bourque, eighth-grader Annalynn Haydel, sophomore Carolina Haydel and seniro Naomi Hill finished first in 1:58.11. E.D. White’s quartet of sophomore Taylor St. Pierre, eighth-grader Noelle Toups, sophomore Adelyne Labat and freshman Lindsey Lucas combined for a 1:48.22 victory in the 200 free relay. Trahan led off Notre Dame’s winning 400 free relay (3:50.14) with freshman Abigail Kilgore, sophomore Emily Lawson and Sarah Simar.

E.D. White picked up relay victories in the 200 medley and 400 free relays. Swimming on the 200 medley were senior Ken Toloudis, Rathle, Danos and sophomore Andrew Soignet; Max Cowen, a sophomore, joined Rathle, Toloudis and Danos for their winning 3:25.32. Seniors Nick Gatch, Christian Matherne and Blake Roussel, with junior Bailey Brack swimming second, gave Lutcher the 200 free relay crown in 1:35.11.

Vandebilt Catholic’s 308.5 points gave them the girls team title after finishing runner-up last year. E.D. White placed second (274), with Parkview Baptist third (208), Notre Dame fourth (178) and University fifth (171).

E.D. White’s boys team improved from second last year to first with their 308-point total. In a tight battle for second, Lutcher squeezed by Lusher Charter, 278-271. St. Charles Catholic took fourth (223) with Parkview Baptist fifth (161).
