NEW COMMIT: Williamstown, Mass. native and distance ace Cole Kuster has recently announced his verbal commitment to Harvard beginning in the fall of 2019. His father, Steve Kuster, was the men’s assistant coach for three years and helped lead the Crimson to a trio of Ivy League titles.

Kuster does his club swimming with Purple Valley Aquatics and has achieved the Junior National standard in four events. He recorded a pair of best times at Juniors this summer after a strong showing at the NE Senior Championships. He placed 11th in the mile and 24th in the 500 at Juniors East last winter, earned the bronze in the 500 free at NE Seniors, was a three-time NE Age Group champion and won two events at Ithaca Speedo Sectionals.

He told Swimming World:

“I am extremely excited and honored to announce my commitment to Harvard University. I chose Harvard because of the outstanding coaching staff, incredible academics, and the immediate connection I felt with the team. Thank you to my parents, coaches, and friends who helped throughout this process. I look forward to this incredible opportunity over the next four years! Go Crimson!”

His best times include:

  • 200 free – 1:41.70
  • 500 free – 4:29.01
  • 1000 free – 9:13.58
  • 1650 free – 15:32.64

Kuster will join a talented distance group led by Zach Snyder when he arrives on campus as a member of the class of 2023. Under head coach Kevin Tyrrell, Harvard won their 25th Ivy League Championship title last season.
