Harvard Continues Huge Recruiting Day as Koya Osada Verbally Commits

CHAPEL Hill, North Carolina, October 8. THE Harvard Crimson added to an already-huge day in recruiting, picking up a commitment from Koya Osada. Osada confirmed his college choice to Swimming World late Tuesday afternoon, joining Jack Boyd and Edward Kim in Harvard’s class of 2018.

Osada shared his excitement after making his decision to move to Cambridge in the fall. “Of course the academic and athletic programs at Harvard are second to none. In addition, I was amazed with the level of respect the guys had for one another. They were true gentlemen, and I aspired to be just like them. I’m excited to be able to call them family now.”

Osada ranks 81st in the CollegeSwimming.com rankings for the class of 2014. He swims for Duke Aquatics and specializes in the back, fly, and the IMs. He could provide an immediate boost for Harvard in the 200 back (1:47.43), 200 fly (1:48.95), 200 IM (1:49.97), and 400 IM (3:52.41). He currently attends East Chapel Hill High School.

Osada has also posted quality long course swims, finishing as high as tenth in the 200 IM at this summer’s Junior Nationals in Irvine. His top times include a 2:04.43 in that event, along with strong lifetime bests in the 200 back (2:04.87), 200 fly (2:02.30), and 400 IM (4:29.16).
