NEW COMMIT: Florida Gulf Coast University has gained a new verbal commitment for the fall of 2019 from in-state freestyler Hannah VanDress. She will join Hailey Jerew as a member of the class of 2023.

VanDress does her club swimming with Swim Florida and most recently competed at Cary Futures where she placed 16th in the mile and 18th in the 800m free. A native of Cape Coral, Fla., she finished ninth in the 1000 free at Florida Seniors in February and recorded a pair of best times at Southern Zone Sectionals in March. Also representing Bishop Verot High School, VanDress is a five-time Florida 1A State Championship finalist. She finished eighth in the 500 free and 14th in the 200 free as a junior after placing tenth and 16th, respectively, in those events during her sophomore season.

She told Swimming World:

“I am so excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim at FGCU! I choose FGCU because of the great coaching staff, and team atmosphere! Thank you to everyone  who has helped me throughout this process! Go Eagles!”

Her best times include:

  • 200 free – 1:54.42
  • 500 free – 4:57.87
  • 1000 free – 10:22.22
  • 1650 free – 17:11.25

When she arrives in Fort Myers for the start of the 2019-20 season, VanDress will join a freestyle training group that is led by Liz Zeiger. VanDress would’ve scored in the B-final of the 500 free at the 2018 CCSA Championships where the Eagles won their fourth-consecutive conference title.
