H2O Frogs Return To Action In Florida

FT. WORTH, TX, January 6. AFTER training in the Sunshine State since the 29th of December, the TCU swimming and diving team reports it will return to competition on Thursday at the Tampa Relays in Tampa, Florida, and on Friday in dual meets against Southern Illinois and Indian River Community College in Fort Pierce, Florida.

The Horned Frogs last swam competitively on Dec. 2-4 at the UT Invite in Austin. The Frogs had numerous top times in the event and two student-athletes posted NCAA "B" qualifying marks.

For the women, sophomore Erica Tate qualified for the NCAA's in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.42 seconds, a mark that ranks her 49th in the nation. She also broke a 14-year old school record in the 100-fly when she touched the wall in 55.41 seconds.

On the men's side, senior Craig Chapman became the second Frog NCAA qualifier when he posted a time of 1:47.12 in the 200-yard backstroke. The time ranks 26th in the NCAA this season.

As a team, the Frogs will look to build on the success that they had in the first half of the season. The women's squad posted a 7-1 dual meet record thus far, while the men's team was 3-2 overall prior to the break.
