“Gold In the Water” Nominated for Top Honors

NEW YORK, March 20. P.H. Mullen's new swimming book, Gold in the Water: Ordinary Men and their Extraordinary Dream of Olympic Glory, has been
nominated as the year's "Best Book for Young Adults" by the Booklist Magazine.

The prestigious annual award goes to the adult book that best delivers a positive message to adolescent readers. Nominations include books published in the past 16 months and include fiction and nonfiction titles selected for their proven or potential appeal to the reading tastes of the young adult. The Young Adult Library Services Association, a division of the American Library Association, oversees the award.

Gold in the Water is the only sports book in this year's list.

Booklist says, "Young athletes will be enthralled by this realistic, personal view of the U.S. swimming team's journey to the 2000 Olympics: the dreams, the
training, the toll, the failure, and the success. A superb sports book."

"Gold in the Water" was also named by The London Times one of the "Ten Best Sports Books of 2001."
Only one other swimming book has earned this honor: Phillip Whitten's The Complete Book of Swimming in 1994.
