Germantown’s Arthur Frayler Threatens National Independent High School Record at Easterns

PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania, February 25. THIS evening, with a global audience watching live on SwimmingWorld.TV, Germantown's Arthur Frayler nearly bested the National Independent High School record in the boys 500-yard freestyle at the Eastern Interscholastic Swimming and Diving Championships.

Frayler threw down a sterling time of 4:17.96 at Easterns on the campus of La Salle University, drawing a thunderous applause from the crowd after he obliterated Fran Crippen's meet record of 4:19.54 set back in 2002. While those in attendance were told that Frayler set the national prep school record, listed in the meet program as a 4:19.32 by Will Freeman in 2009, Frayler actually came up just short of the 4:17.51 set by Jack Conger for Good Counsel in Maryland two weeks ago.

Jeff Kostoff's epic national high school record of 4:16.39 set while representing public school Upland High of California back in 1983 still remains as the top swim in high school lore.
