NEW COMMIT: Mount Pleasant, S.C. native Kendal Chunn has handed Georgia Tech their first verbal commitment for the 2022-23 season and beyond.

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I am so excited to announce my verbal commitment to further my swimming and academic career at Georgia Tech!!  I loved getting to meet the coaching staff and the team. I’d like to thank my friends, family and my coaches for helping make it to this point. Go Jackets!! ?? #TogetherWeSwarm”

Chunn, who trains year-round with South Carolina Swim Club, earned bronze in the 200m IM at Cary Sectionals in March after recording four top-8 finishes at South Carolina Seniors in February.

In Summer 2019, she placed sixth in both the 100m back and 200m breast at South Carolina LCM Seniors before going on to earn 100% best times at Greensboro Futures where her highest finish was a 10th-place showing in the 200m IM.

Her best times include:

  • 200 IM – 2.03.33
  • 400 IM – 4.23.03
  • 100 back – 56.68
  • 200 back – 2.02.92
  • 100 breast – 1.05.85
  • 200 breast – 2.21.72

Currently a junior at Oceanside Collegiate Academy, Chunn has won the 100 back and 200 IM all three seasons thus far at the South Carolina 3A State Championships. In 2020, she also led off the winning 4×50 medley relay in 27.05 and split a 53.75 on the first-place 4×100 free relay.

Chunn will add valuable depth when she suits up for the Yellow Jackets’ as a member of the Class of 2026. She is just on the brink of scoring range at the ACC Championships as it took 2:00.53/4:21.02 in the 200/400 IM, 54.44/1:59.19 in the 100/200 back, and 1:02.88/2:16.34 in the 100/200 breast to score last season.
