NEW COMMIT: Georgia Tech has received a new in-state verbal commitment for the 2020-21 season beyond from sprint freestyler Grant Allison of Atlanta, Ga.

Allison, who owns the Summer Juniors standard in the 50 free and the U.S. Open cut in the 100 free, does his club swimming with Spartans Aquatic Club and finished 17th in the 100m free at Junior Nationals this past summer after winning that event at Georgia LCM Seniors. Last winter, he recorded a best time at Juniors East before going on to finish 11th in the 50 free at Southern Zones. Also competing for Dunwoody High School, Allison is a six-time Georgia 6A/7A State Championships. He won the 100 free and was the 50 free runner-up as a junior while racing to third in both of those events during his sophomore season.

He told Swimming World:

“Georgia Tech felt like home. I was always lost when it came to knowing where I wanted to attend college and how I wanted to progress with my career as both a student and an athlete and after having the privilege of taking an official visit to Georgia Tech, I had the clarity I needed. The time leading up to one of the most important decisions of my life wasn’t easy yet it still boosted my confidence in a way I knew that if I could come out strong from such a difficult process, I could thrive wherever I ended up for college. I am excited to become part of the Georgia Tech family!”

His best times include:

  • 50 free – 20.82
  • 100 free – 45.08
  • 200 free – 1:42.94

Allison will make an immediate impact both individually and on relays when he suits up for the Yellow Jackets as a member of the class of 2024. His best times already rank near the top of their lineup and he’ll add his talents to a training group led by Corben MilesAustin Daniel, and Qian Zhi.
