NEW COMMIT: Kanagawa, Japan’s Rei Kuramoto has verbally committed to Georgia Tech and will arrive in Atlanta, Ga. as a member of the class of 2024.

She most recently recorded a best time in the 200m free at the Japan High School Championships after finaling in the 400m free at the Junior Olympic Trials. Kuramoto has also represented the Japanese Swimming Federation.

When in the United States, Kuramoto competes for Burlingame Aquatic Club. She last competed at Santa Clara Futures in 2018 where she finished fourth in the 200m fly and fifth in the 100m fly. While representing Burlingame High School, the USA Swimming Scholastic All-American competed in the 100 fly and 200 IM as a sophomore at the CIF State Championships.

She told Swimming World:

“I am thrilled to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at Georgia Institute of Technology! This wouldn’t have been possible without my family, friends and coaches, ありがとう️ I am very thankful and cannot wait to join the swarm! Go yellow jackets!!”

Her best SCY times include:

  • 100 free – 52.57
  • 200 free – 1:52.36
  • 100 fly – 56.07
  • 200 fly – 2:01.33
  • 200 IM – 2:03.80

Her best LCM times include:

  • 100 free – 58.88
  • 200 free – 2:04.52
  • 100 fly – 1:02.57
  • 200 fly – 2:16.56
  • 200 IM – 2:23.47

When she suits up for the Yellow Jackets at the start of the 2020-21 season, Kuramoto will add her talents to their free and fly training groups. Although her best SCY times just shy of scoring range at the ACC Championships, she has continuously made improvements each season and will become a valuable asset to Georgia Tech’s lineup.
