NEW COMMIT: The University of Georgia has landed a new verbal commitment for the fall of 2021 from Mary Martin of Waukee, Iowa, who will arrive in Athens as a member of the class of 2025 along with Elsa Fretz and Rachel Stege.

Martin, who owns a pair of Junior National standards, does her club swimming with the YMCA of Greater Des Moines and earned a best time at Junior Nationals this past summer after grabbing silver in the 100m breast at Iowa LCM Seniors. Last winter, she raced to 22nd in the 100 breast at Juniors West before placing fourth in that event as well as ninth in the 200 breast at YMCA Nationals.

A current junior at Dowling Catholic High School, Martin is a four-time Iowa State Championship finalist and has earned USA Swimming Scholastic All-American honors. She won the 100 breast and took fifth in the 200 IM as a junior en route to helping her team clinch their first-ever state title after taking first and second, respectively, in those events during her sophomore season.

Her best times include:

  • 100 breast – 1:02.30
  • 200 breast – 2:16.34
  • 200 IM – 2:02.96
  • 50 free – 24.51
  • 100 free – 55.15
  • 100 back – 58.92
  • 100 fly – 59.26

Even with 1.5 years of club swimming still to go, Martin will add valuable depth to Georgia’s lineup when she arrives in Athens at the start of the 2021-22 season and will have two years of overlap with current freshman standout and 100 breast nation-leader Zoie Hartman.
