NEW COMMIT: The University of Georgia has added a second breaststroke talent to the class of 2023, picking up a verbal commitment from Ashley McCauley. She will join Zoie Hartman in Athens in the fall of 2019. McCauley is from Raleigh, NC, where she swims for the Marlins of Raleigh. The USA Swimming Scholastic All-American is a junior at Leesville Road High School.

At this winter’s North Carolina High School 4A state championships, McCauley finished third in the 200 IM and second in the 100 breaststroke.

McCauley has been a breaststroking force for a number of years, setting North Carolina state records as young as 14. In 2015 (at age 14) McCauley was the youngest member of the USA’s World Juniors team.

She wrote in her announcement on social media,

“Thrilled to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and swimming career at the University of Georgia! Thank you to everyone who helped me along the way. Go Dawgs”

Her best SCY times include:

  • 100 Breast 1:01.01
  • 200 Breast 2:09.54
  • 200 IM 2:00.46
  • 400 IM 4:16.11

At the 2018 SEC Championships McCauley would have finished just outside the A final in the 100 and 200 breaststroke.
