Georgia 6A State Champion Maddie Singletary Sends 2021 Verbal to North Carolina

NEW COMMIT: Roswell, Ga. native Madeline “Maddie” Singletary has pledged her verbal commitment to the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill beginning in the fall of 2021.

Singletary, who owns a pair of Winter Juniors standards, does her club swimming with Swim Atlanta and placed eighth in the 400 IM at Juniors East in December. This past summer, she had four top-8 finishes at Georgia LCM Seniors and was the runner-up in the mile at the Southern Premier Invitational last short course season.

She told Swimming World:

“I am thrilled to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at the University of North Carolina. From the time that I stepped on campus, the team and coaches made me feel right at home.  Thank you to my family, friends, teammates, and especially my coaches for their endless love and support. I can’t wait to be a tarheel!!! Go Heels!” 

Her best times include:

  • 200 free – 1:50.41
  • 500 free – 4:51.17
  • 1000 free – 10:06.13
  • 1650 free – 16:47.54
  • 400 IM – 4:20.52

A current junior at Centennial High School, Singletary is a six-time Georgia 6A State Championship finalist. She earned silver in the 200/500 free combo as a junior after finishing first and third, respectively, in those events during her sophomore season. The USA Swimming Scholastic All-American also finished fourth in both of those events as a rookie.
