Gena Jorgenson Wins Three Events as Nebraska Dominates Iowa State
The Nebraska women’s swimming and diving team defeated Iowa State in a dual meet Saturday in Ames, Iowa, with the Cornhuskers taking first place in every event aside from the breaststroke races. Gena Jorgenson, a multi-time All-American for Nebraska, led the way with three individual triumphs as her team won 197-103.
Nebraska’s team of Virginia Consiglio, Amelia Riggot, Beatrix Tanko and Natalie Dunaway pulled clear of the Cyclones’ “A” team for the top spot in the 200 medley relay, recording a time of 1:44.73. Consiglio topped the 100 backstroke (57.07) and 200 back (2:04.57) while Tanko grabbed first in the 50 freestyle (24.03) and 100 butterfly (56.87).
Riley Miklos was victorious in the 1000 free in 10:22.53, and Jorgenson came home first with a time of 1:51.47 in the 200 free. Aurora Zanin grabbed first in the 200 butterfly, and Giulia Marchi won the 100 free (53.07). Jorgenson won her second event in the 500 free (4:57.14) and added another win with a time of 4:26.95 in the 400 IM.
In diving, the Cornhuskers’ Abigail Baxter placed first on 3-meter (346.10) and 1-meter (318.95), and the 200 free relay went to the Nebraska team of Tanko, Marchi, Miklos and Jorgenson in 3:30.49.
Iowa State’s Grace Swoboda was the winner by exactly one second in the 100 breaststroke (1:04.01) as her team swept the top-three spots. Another sweep followed in the 200 breast, this time with Maddie Geromin coming from behind to take the win in 2:20.77.
