Gavin Rogers and Nick Toepfer Send 2021 Verbal Commitments to LSU Tigers

NEW COMMITS: Braintree, Mass. native Nick Toepfer and Gavin Rogers of Highlands Ranch, Colo. have announced their verbal commitments to Louisiana State University beginning in the fall of 2021.

Both swimmers will join Brendan Hausdorf in Baton Rouge as members of the Tigers’ class of 2025.

He told Swimming World:

“I am excited and humbled to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and swimming career at Louisiana State University!  I chose LSU because of the great coaching staff and team culture. I want to thank my family, coaches, friends, and teammates that have supported and encouraged me throughout this process. Geaux Tigers!”

Primarily a butterflyer, Rogers swims year-round with Highlands Ranch Aquatics and owns a pair of U.S. Open cuts. He recently had four top-5 finishes at Potomac Valley Seniors and finaled in the 200 fly at Juniors West over the winter. He was the 200m fly runner-up at Colorado LCM Seniors last summer and finished 10th in that event at Des Moines Futures.

His best times include:

  • 100 fly – 49.98
  • 200 fly – 1:48.62
  • 200 IM – 1:56.75
  • 400 IM – 4:09.67
  • 200 free – 1:41.35
  • 500 free – 4:35.36

Rogers is also a school record holder in the 100 fly and 500 free for Valor Christian High School and has earned All-Conference honors twice. The two-time USA Swimming Scholastic All-American placed seventh in the 500 free and ninth in the 100 fly as a sophomore at the Colorado 5A State Championships while taking sixth in those events as a freshman at the 4A meet.

Regarding his commitment, he said:

“I’m honored to announce my verbal commitment to join the LSU Swim and Dive class of 2025. I’d like to thank the LSU coaching staff, my family, teammates and coaches for helping me on my journey. Geaux Tigers!”

A talented backstroker, Toepfer does his club swimming with South Shore Mill Pond YMCA and owns a pair of U.S. Open cuts. He most recently won three events at the Eastern MA YMCA Championships after earning gold in the 100 back at New England Seniors in December. He also earned two best times at 2019 YMCA Nationals where he finaled in three events.

His best times include:

  • 50 back – 24.24
  • 100 back – 49.96
  • 200 back – 1:49.35

Last summer, Toepfer earned silver in the 100m back and 200m back at New England LCM Seniors before going on to earn bronze in the latter at YMCA LCM Nationals. The two-time USA Swimming Scholastic All-American also recorded a best times at the Toyota U.S. Open in December.
